Michigan had robust growth in personal income between 2011 and 2021, but it was not shared equally by all families. Families at the median average were shorted more than $5,000 in annual income. If a majority of kids in the next generation see the affluent families pulling farther and farther away from them, why would it not lead to the politics of envy and resentment?
